The Vendor Perception Gap: What We Found When We Put Both Sides of SA Advicetech on One Page

If you ask South African advice firms about their technology, you hear two stories: better tools and more choice than ever, but also a lot of friction in getting systems to work together and bed down in real practices. If you ask vendors, you hear two stories too: steady investment in product, integration and implementation, and a market where buying behaviour and feedback are often hard to read.

Individually, none of this is new. What we haven’t had is a way to see both sides of the market on the same page – to line up what vendors say they are doing with what advisors say they are living with. That is what our latest research report, The Vendor Perception Gap, sets out to do.

What’s in the report

The report combines:

  • A dedicated survey of South African advice?technology providers (product, commercial and executive roles).
  • Three years of survey data from advisors, paraplanners and practice operations teams in local FSPs.

On the provider side, we explore integration strategy, target markets, differentiators, implementation success factors and appetite for independent research. On the advice?practice side, we track core tech challenges, solution ratings, buying behaviour and shifting attitudes to platform?provided tools. No individual vendors are named or ranked. It’s a map of patterns, not a scorecard.

What it gives you:

The report does not get into which specific vendor is “best”. It does show you, for example:

  • Whether the themes vendors emphasise most are the same areas advisors are happiest with.
  • Whether the practice sizes vendors say they serve match the actual shape of the market.
  • Whether ideas about who drives implementation success match what decision?makers expect after they sign.
  • How advisor ratings on features, value, support, integration and innovation are moving over time and which shifts are worth worrying about.

In short, it shows where the stories match, where they miss, and where they are drifting apart, using South African data across multiple years.

Who it’s for

This report is for people who decide:

  • What to build next
  • Which segment to prioritise
  • How to structure implementation and support
  • How to better approach consultative conversations with advice practices about technology

That includes vendor and platform leadership teams, product and strategy heads, investors and acquirers, and practice?management specialists.
